The Omnibus Territories Act Passed the Senate
The US Senate passed S-210, the Omnibus Territories Act, which amends the Organic Act. This is the Governors version of the bill which now goes to the US House of Representatives for action there. Delegate Dr Donna Christian-Green also has a version of the bill but it is unlikely the Delegates version will get action now that a senate version is in play. The delegate says she’ll lobby for amendments to let the senate decide who is in power when the Governor travels. We’ll keep you posted.

Central High School held Graduation
Yesterday was graduation for 252 seniors at Central High School on St. Croix. It took four hours to acknowledge all the graduates. Governor Schneider noted that there could have been 100 more graduates, but as Liston Davis pointed out, there are no more social promotions.
Festival News
The Visitors Center on St. John is getting a face lift, just in time for 4th of July Festival. There already is a new coat of paint on the Visitors Center and Dept. of Public Works is adding a new sidewalk, landscaping and more sprucing up. VITRAN will introduce temporary bus service for the 4th of July festival. From June 22 through July 5th two busses will ply a route between Cruz Bay and Coral Bay along Centerline Road. 06/17/97 4:02 PM
Senate in Special Session
The Governor has called the Senate into a special session scheduled for Wednesday. The planned meeting of the Gov. Operations committee will be postponed to a future date. The Senate will consider a law to permit people with delinquent tax bills to give their land to the government in lieu of paying cash for the taxes. The idea is to give tax payers more options and secure some government land for the home ownership program.
Learn about Pink Mealybugs from St. Kitts
A team from our Department of Agriculture are on their way to St. Kitts/Nevis to find out how that island is managing its infestation with Pink Mealybugs. Commissioner Petersen says the St. Kitts/Nevis program is the most successful program for the control of the pest in the region. They left on Tuesday and are due back Thursday.

Hey who took the two bicycles? Two boys were playing with their bicycles near the Mariendahl road turnoff off of Brookman Road when they went in the house for water. Reichhold Center for the Performing Arts Plays
Good news for Felix Fleming, Katrina White Commissiong and Marie Fenton. They have been chosen to act in the Reichhold Center presentation of Man/Woman Business coming up in July. There are auditions June 20th and 21st at the Reichhold Center for parts in the play The World Spin One Way
Senate Session on Thursday
Tomorrow the Senate is sponsoring a health screening in Frederiksted at 9 AM, then at 10 AM – the Full Senate is meeting in St. Thomas to consider several bills, there one to acquire some property along Harwood highway, another bill will let the Port Authority float 3.5 million in bonds for the Molasses Pier, the bill to raise fine for parking in a handicapped ramp, and the change in the fee to use Teller Machines. They also have two changes to the zoning map to consider.
Water Island Report
Terresa, Jay and Jenna left for the “up north”. Teressa said she wanted her daughter to have more dance in her future than being a Mocko Jumbie. Sue and Megan left for Kansas. “This isn’t Kansas Toto.” Out of Hurricane season into tornado season! Some improvement. Sorry to see you go.
