Fortune Multi-purpose Center to Open
Good news for folks in the west. The Bordeaux-Fortuna Multi-Service Center will be dedicated on Saturday at 10:00 AM – This will bring emergency services of the Police, Fire, and Ambulance closer to the people in the west end of the island. All emergency services will be under one roof.

Seaplanes Get lease at Marine Terminal
The Virgin Islands Port Authority approved a lease for Seaborne Aviation near the Edward Wilmoth Blyden Marine terminal. Seaborne Aviation says they will move from their Havensight location by Oct and add flights to Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.
Government says UVI payments are On-time.
Acting Finance Commissioner Juan Centeno says the government’s payments to UVI are on time and on schedule. He says they got 1.2 million dollars on June 13th and have another 800,000 coming later this month. Centeno says the government is actually a little bit ahead.
Senate in Full Session Today
The Senate will today at 10 AM to consider several bills; Senator White reported on he actions of his committee and they went into recess until later this morning. One bill will acquire property along Harwood highway, another to let the Port Authority float bonds for the Molasses Pier, a bill to raise the fine for parking in a handicapped ramp, and another to change the fee for using Automatic Teller Machines. They have two zoning changes to consider.
Gov. says Roof Program is Fixed
Responding to complaints that the roof program was mired in red tape, the Gov. says the problems have been worked out. Kennedy Apex will fix 240 roofs and the rest will be done by other contractors. Contractors will work weekends and get reorganized into teams to get the work done faster. Now they are trying to get it all done before we have a storm.
Carol Burke is looking for help – before we need it.
The Hurricane prediction calls for three major storms this season, while they may not come here, Senator Carol Burke is asking Fortune 500 companies to send aid before we have a storm. Burke says she is getting positive responses from the big companies.
We got a “B” for our Parks?
In a national survey of national parks, we got a “B.” We got a grade of 86, compared with 93 for a park in Alaska and 79 for an Arkansas park. 70 to 80 per cent of visitors thought our scenery was excellent. We didn’t get an “A” because too many people thought our roads and buildings needed repair.
Mrs. Globe Competition is heating up
They are competing for the title Mrs. Globe and the competition is going on here in the Virgin Islands at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort. The contests are inviting everyone to come to tomorrow’s evening gown competition to get to meet everyone face to face. Proceeds benefit sending youth to the youth games in NY this summer.
Emanuel Benjamin Oliver Summer Program Needs 100 More
There’s a Summer Enrichment Program for students leaving the sixth entering seventh grade at Emanuel Benjamin Oliver school. This program is free and it started yesterday and runs through Aug 1st. Just Come to E. Benjamin Oliver School from 8:00 AM – to Noon. There’s room for 100 additional students.
Hero of the Hour
Our good news maker of the hour is Vanessa Herbert of McDonald’s in Tutu. Her co-workers told the Good News Guy that Vanessa saved the life of a kitten run down by a car. The kitten had a broken leg and Vanessa gathered up the kitten, got it in a box and called the folks at the Animal Shelter and got the kitten medical care. The staff of McDonald’s in Tutu wanted to thank Vanessa Herbert for making good news for the kitten. And my thanks to everyone at McDonald’s in Tutu for running an excellent restaurant.
Water Island Report
There were more than 24 drops of rain on the roof this morning. This is more than yesterday when we counted 23 drops of rain. All raindrops are requested to please deliver themselves to my cistern which is looking for them.
