Sunday was Coronation Day for Carnival Royalty

The coronation of the Queen of Carnival and the Prince and Princess of Carnival was the highlight of Sunday. Taisha Gomes was radiant in her white gown. The Prince and Princess Tanya Mirtil and Prince Shomari Maynard were dressed in acres of chiffon on the Princess and a striking white uniform for the Prince. There were 1000 in the crowd to watch the transfer of the crowns at the David Monsanto Bandstand in Emancipation Garden. In 1952, the year of the first modern Carnival, the King and Queen were Leo and Carmen Sibilly. Their marriage was one of the outcomes of that first Carnival. 45 years later, they are returning to be the honorees at Carnival village. Leo and Carmen’s Court commemorates the first royals of the first carnival. Leo and Carmen’s Village opens tonight at 6:00 PM.
