Virgin Islands Cruzan Rum is a Winner!
The Caribbean Week Journal of Barbados has completed its annual Rum Tasting and we have a winner. The contest features 15 categories of rum and three prizes in each. Our own Virgin Islands Cruzan Rum 151 Gold took one of the prizes in the “Overproof” category. That makes one of our rums one of the best.
Bicycle Drivers – Get Your Bell!
The Police are going to enforce bicycle safety laws with a stepped up campaign to keep riders within the rules. Bicycle riders are reminded they need a license for their vehicle, and the law requires a warning device like a horn or bell. Donít ride in the the center of the road, but on the left like a car. Ring your bell when you are crossing a road or street. And hold the handlebars. Its for your safety. So make sure your bike has a bell.
Whatís an Ozzie Nozzle?
Donít miss Andrew FunkyMan Shachove in todayís Daily News on page 3 looking on as the St. Thomas East Lions donate an Ozzie nozzle that shoots 375 gallons of water per minute. You know some youths think it is fun to start fires. There is a fire starters intervention workshop coming up on Tuesday on St. Thomas and Wednesday on St. Croix

Dept of Labor reports a sharp upturn in job openings that coincides with the reopening of so many hotel rooms. The Daily News is replete with ads looking for food and wait staff, and if you know how to cook, there is work.
Pacific Teal Shipment
We are watching that shippment of nuclear waste. Greenpeace reports that the ship is on route to France to pick up the nuclear waste cargo. The final route is expected to be around Africa, but has not been announced. Weíll keep you posted.
Energy Grants
The Virgin Islands Energy office is offering mini-grants to teachers to help them develop educational materials about energy awareness. Applications for the grants are due at the end of February.
Farmers: What do you need?
Dept of Agriculture wants to hear from the islands farmers about the delivery of services ot them. The meetings are Tuesday January 14th at St. Croix Little Theater, January 15th on St. John at the Boulon Cener and on the 16th at the St. Thomas Legislative Conference Room. All meetings are from 1 PM to 4.
Head toward the Clouds
Civil Air Cadets are back in session. Tomorrow at 8:45 at the Addelita Cancaryn Junior High School in your BDUís. If you want to ride in the clouds and reach for the stars, come to the meeting.

- The Americaís Cup Yacht Stars and Stripes is going to Christiansted St. Croix this weekend.
- Lockhard PTA Campus beautification committee is meeting tomorrow at the school beginning at 7:30 for major cleanup and landscaping. Refreshments will be served. Bring gardening tools and plants.
- DPNR is holding public meetings on St. John at the Boulon Center tonight. The topic is the proposed Coastal Zone Management Assessment and Strategy for 1997.

Jah Rastafari Theocracy Reign, The Divine Order of the Nyabinghi is celebrating Ethiopian Christmas at the Tabernacle in Bordeaux. Everyone is invited to join in this joyous moment which will continue through to the 13th of January. And there is a delegation from Atlanta here to help celebrate. Thatís good news.
