The President is Enjoying His Vacation on St. Thomas

The President is enjoying his vacation. He spent the morning relaxing then around 10 AM his whole traveling party took off from Red Hook St. Thomas for St. John and a visit to the National Park. He is expected to do some snorkeling on the Trunk Bay underwater trail. There is an unconfirmed Hillary sighting on Raphune Hill at Deja Vu, The isn’t only vacationing. He announced the recipients of the National Medal of Arts Citing artists and musicians including Lionel Hampton and the Boys Choir of Harlem. The balance of the day has not been announced, but the Childrens Parade on St. Croix could be a magnet for Hillary and Chelsea. We’ll keep you posted.

Casino Class a Hit

That class on Casino card dealing is a hit. it was standing room for the informational meeting with 150 St. Croix residents coming hear about the latest industry on St. Croix. Tourism Commissioner Wylie Whisonant said the strong turnout is indicative of the need for new jobs on St. Croix in this new industry. That’s why the government is providing this class at no cost to the students. Registration is still open at the old FEMA office in Sunny Isle Shopping Center St. Croix.

New Busses on North Side

VITRAN is working on a new schedule for the north side of St. Thomas to bring more busses. Beginning Monday there will be a bus from Contant via Hospital Gade and Mafolie Hill and St Peter Mountain Road through Four Corners through to Estate Pearl. There will be three trips daily at 7:45, 1 o’clock and 5:30.

Children’s Parade

The St. Croix Festival Committee announced the children’s parade will be one of the most colorful ever with 5 youth steel orchestras, 2 youth “Mocko Jumbie” entries and the stepping champions from Evelyn Williams school. The children’s parade starts is supposed to start at 10 AM but we’ll keep you posted. The adult parade is tomorrow at 10 AM. The Post office will be closed on St. Croix for the parade.

Bovoni Meeting

A community meeting to discuss the Bovoni Landfill is coming up on January 21st at the Bovoni Baptist Church. This is an informational meeting and attorney’s will be there.

Baseball Team Want’s You

The St. Thomas-St. John All Stars Baseball Team is looking for baseball players at Lionel Roberts Stadium at 5:30 or Call 774-2640. They are forming up the team for the 1st Annual Caribbean Baseball Festival Tournament.

Our Calypso King is a Queen

The new Calypso Monarch in St. Croix is a controversy. Nikki Brooks took the title and the $3000 prize. She was the only woman in the contest and disgruntled supporters of other contestants were visibly upset with the decision. Nevertheless the King of Calypso on St. Croix is a Queen. Nikki Brooks took the title with a song title We Are Losing Our Youth and her second tune called Champagne celebrated our own William Champagne Chandler.
