The First Retro Checks Are Being Printed
The retroactive checks are coming on Thursday. More than 7500 checks are being processed. These are the checks for fiscal year 1992. There is a huge volume of calculations and some payroll records were lost in the storm, so when you get a checks, please check it for accuracy.
No recount for Congressman Frazer
The St. Thomas Board of Elections countered all of Frazer’s claims of inpropriety in the run-off election. They say the election was proper, the vote count accurate and the allegations made by Frazer are incorrect. Last week the St. Croix Election Board said no to a recount.
More Water Island Party News
The Water Island party keeps growing. Now add a parade on St. Thomas to the Water Island welcome. The parade will include the marching bands, Steel Orchestras, the Traditional Indians, Elskoe and Associates, and Hugga Bunch. The parade begins at 6:00 PM Friday from Market Square to Emancipation Garden. Participants are to be in place by 5:00 PM. Parking restrictions will be in effect to keep the parade route clear.
New Employee Discharge Bill
The legislature has a new bill regarding the rules on employee discharge. It give employers clear rules about when they can fire an employee and defines the causes, sets a timetable for resolution and requires arbitration before a dispute goes to court. The bill is expected to boost the economy by making it easier for companies to hire temporary workers, and first-time workers. The new bill would bring us into conformity with the discharge laws in most states.
Rules Committee – No Meeting
Committee on Rules is meeting on St. Thomas with an agenda that includes several leases, honoring Maud Proudfoot and a long list of nominations to review. The didn’t get a quorum and ended the meeting without acting.
Fire Service Visitors
Virgin Islands Fire Service is welcoming some special guests. The Fire Service is hosting 60 firefighters and their spouses from the New York City Fire Dept. They are coming today for a party at Magens Bay. Funkyman says that in the tradition of Virgin Islands Hospitality, they are hosting a party and volleyball contest at Magens.
Santa’s Coming!
Santa’s Coming to the Reichhold Center on Sunday. Santa’s Winter Wonderland is Sunday care of ATT of the Virgin Islands, CellularOne, Sea Chest and the Council on the Arts. The elves will have gifts for kids under 12 and there is a musical program with medleys, ballet, tap and other dances and the Children’s Musical Play by the kids of the Virgin Islands Institute of Performing Arts. And Cell One is giving kids free calls to the North Pole to talk with Santa. Its Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Reichhold Center

Have you been to the Reichhold Center for the Performing Arts to see the art exhibit. Mercedez Berruz has oil paintings and water colors on display from now through January 28th. On and the Reichhold Center is looking for volunteers to help on New Years Night with the Boston Pops concert. The Reichhold Center also has a World Wide Web site, at www.usvi.net/Reichhold.
Red Cross Volunteers Honored
Red Cross announced their end of year tally. Nationwide they sheltered 65,000 people from Hurricane threat this year and served nearly a million meals. The local chapter is holding a disaster volunteers recognition Dinner at Bluebeard’s Castle on Friday.
