Are we ready for welfare reform? Senate says no.
Yesterday afternoon the Senate passed Sen. Petrus’ bill to petition the Congress for an exemption from the welfare reform act. Petrus notes that we are still dealing with a major disaster recovery, don’t drop welfare reform on us too.
They give the go-ahead for the community block grants. The unequal division of block grants goes to the Governor for his signature.
The senate tabled the Bingo Game Bill and sent back to committee the bill to take insurance away from the Lieutenant Governor.
As part of Energy Awareness Month, the Governor’s task force on recreational lighting met to plan the deployment of 3 million dollars worth of energy efficient lights for our recreational facilities on all islands

- Virgin Islands Council on the Arts has a registry for professional artists to inform artists about the latest in grant programs, biennial events and special help for the arts. Artists call 774-5984 and get registered.
- The Candidates for the Senate will appear at a forum tomorrow at 7 PM at CAHS auditorium.
- Ben Ammi will be the featured speaker at UVI on Friday in Room 200 Humanities Building.

On the sore spot report, Will WAPA please fix the light on Bottom Road in Donoe that’s been out since Marilyn. Hey WAPA how come VITELCO and DPW fix their sore spots so fast and these WAPA still has the long list of sore spots?
