Our Modular Classrooms are here!
I am looking out over Subbase and I see the first of our modular classrooms. They have wheels and air conditioner units, doors, windows and the look like they are ready to go on site and become classrooms. There’s an inspection of the units today at 10 AM. We’ll have more on Lee Carle’s NEWSDAY at noon.

OK here’s the calendar for non-essential government employees. You have administrative leave this afternoon and that continues tomorrow until 1 PM. The schools are on the same schedule except the schools that are double session – you are off all day Thursday. Also in carnival business, our Prince Edward and Sly mongoose announce that their cassette has just come out and is available in all the Music stores. The Cassette is called Time Out by Prince Edward.

Shots – Again…
I’m going to tell you again, this is infant immunization month. Get your young children’s vaccinations up to date. Medicine has conquered measles, mumps, polio, rubella, hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, but only if your child gets their early immunizations.
Ibel Gets Contract
Louis Ibel got more than the MSI Calypso of the Year Award – he got a recording contract with Caribbean Sound Basin a record company. Ibel called the prize the opportunity of a lifetime.
Mall revisited
Should the mall be reworked to be the Downtown mall instead of just main street? Some merchants main street wrote to Governor Schneider saying they are not benefiting from the current mall and want the idea thought through again – either include more streets, or exclude all traffic or try another version of the mall.
Scholarship Winner.
This is great news – Winston Brathwaite is the first UVI students ever selected to be a Harry S Truman Scholar. Fewer that 60 students from 40 colleges receive this award which is usually dominated by students from Yale and Columbia. Brathwaite will get a scholarship worth about $30,000 to help him study law. Brathwaite won the award, in part, for his excellent study of public policy on the homeless in the Virgin Islands. That’s Winston Brathwaite’s good news. Oh, by the way the University announced that there are scholarships available to local graduating seniors. Applications are due May 6th.
