Carnival Princess

This years Carnival Princess has been selected. At a jammed Lionel Roberts Stadium, LaToya S. O’Neal bested the rest to take the title. The first runner up was Dorothy Deutschmann and second runner up was Tunesha Russell. LaToya also took the prize for Best Talent, and best evening wear. Congratulations LaToya.

Jack’s Bay

The League of Women Voters responded to the Governors reversal of the Jack’s Bay application for development. The League says that the Department of Planning and Natural Resources process has approved nearly 99% of all applications – they are not anti- development. The League says that permit process should go along as it was designed and without interference from any elected official. The topic comes up again at the Legislative Conference room in Frederiksted tomorrow at 6 PM.

Legislative Agenda

The Legislature is meeting on Wednesday to consider nominees to the St. Croix health facilities corp, and to the anti-litter commission. There are items on the agenda to honor Red Cross and to posthumously honor Henry Rohlson by naming the St. Croix airport for the aviation pioneer.

School Registration

School registration in St. Croix begins tomorrow at the pupil personnel office in La Grande Princess Complex. Starting at 8:30. Students with last names ending in A or B can register on April 9th.

India Association

The India Association made a contribution of $2500 to the All Saints School Computer Lab. The India Association is also hosting a special seminar with philosopher Dada Vaswani at Frenchman’s Reef on Monday April 22 and the theme is How to make friends and keep them.

Cyril King Birthday

Senator Liburd reminds you that yesterday would have been the 75th birthday of Cyril Emanual King, the second governor of the Virgin Islands and a pioneer in he political development of the Virgin Islands. Liburd said King was founder of the only existing political party that has grown out of local roots. And he articulated a vision of the Caribbean unity that continues to inspire many of us who love the Virgin Islands.

  • St. Thomas Lions are offering free hearing screening by a certified Audiologist from 9:30 at the Virgin Islands Resource Center next to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Dick Gregory

Finally this: Dick Gregory started his career as a comedian in the 1950’s. But Sunday’s presentation at Small Businesses on the Move was not a humor routine – rather Gregory is a social commentator and he had comments for all of us. “We don’t realize how much power we have, said Gregory, “Black folks earned $488 million dollars last year in business. If we were a separate nation, we’d be the 6th largest economic power in the world. Gregory admonished his audience to focus on business and service to the community.
