Governor attacks Crime
Governor Schneider met with police officials on Monday to attack the recent crime problem. The result: there will be more random roadblocks, a new special investigations unit, and more police surveillance. He has also called on the national guard MP unit and the FBI for assistance. Stay tuned for a new crime tips hot line and cash rewards for people who give the police information that leads to an arrest. The police want more officers assigned to night shifts as well.
$1 Million for Jobs
The labor department got a grant of one million dollars to provide job training to people unemployed by Hurricane Marilyn who are still out of work. If you are unemployed go to the job training office to see if you are eligible for this new job training program.
Island Resources Foundation
You know that American Airlines has been flying to the Virgin Islands for 25 years. You may not know that American Airlines is a major sponsor of the Island Resources Foundation over the years. The Foundation promotes destination quality, ecosystem health, diversity and cultural integrity.
St John Repairs
The Governor and Senator Liburd toured St. John over the weekend and checked the repairs on the Cruz Bay Police station. The governor said the government was in the process of acquiring trailers for executive offices in Coral Bay for police and health workers.
Vitelco Underground
VITELCO is going underground – at least they are burying more of their cables. Specifically, VITELCO is burying the cables that link their offices in Charlotte Amalie with Tutu and Narareth. This week there is cable burying work starting from Mafolie Hill through the Skyline Drive to Cassi Hill. This work will impede traffic so drivers are advised to allow more time for the drive.
Housing Police Jobs
Are you looking for work that pays $75,000 a year? The Housing Police may be the job for you. The exam to join the housing police is scheduled on St. Croix for March 13th and on St. Thomas for March 16 at the CAHS auditorium. Call the Virgin Islands Housing Authority at 775-2741
