Gov Seeks Park Land
The Governor and Congressman Don Young toured sites in St. Croix that are being considered for transfer to the Virgin Islands government. The National Historic Site in Christiansted is on the governors list, the others include Sandy Point National Wildlife refuge. The Dept of Interior had no comment on the governors wish list.
Hospital Incinerator
The hospital waste disposal system came under fire today in the Daily News. The good news is that the hospital incinerator is being completed and may be operational within two weeks. In the meantime, hospital waste can no longer go to the landfill.
Parks Buoys
National Parks Service announced that they had placed three yellow flashing buoys north of St. John to mark the northern boundary of the National Park. The Park service will also celebrate 40 years of the St. John park in December and is looking for memorabilia from the transfer day ceremony.
Peace Corp Adoption
The Peace Corp School has been adopted by two stateside schools: Mantua School in Fairfax Va and the Stony Creek Elementary School in Chatfield Colorado. The Mantua students contacted a crayon distributor and sent three large cartons of crayons. The Peace Corp kids sent copies of their school booklet about Hurricane Marilyn to the stateside schools. The good news maker; Principal Short who arranged the adoptions with her sisters in Washington and Colorado.
Mall Today
We have a downtown mall going on today on Main Street from 9 AM to 4 PM and it is closed to automobiles. There is special accommodation for taxi’s on Raddetts Gade.
Essay Contests
There are essay contests going on right now. March 29th is the deadline for the My Caribbean contest, This years theme: My Country’s Undiscovered Treasures. Children under 12 can write up to 500 words about special features of our islands and can win a $2000 scholarship. There is a competition for a full scholarship to study tourism at Cornell University. The Application deadline is April 1st to win a full scholarship to Cornell. Call Avericia Williams at 774-8784.

- J. Antonio Jarvis PTO is meeting at 5:30 on the campus.
- American Cancer Society is holding a laugh therapy session. The movie is Birdcage with Robert William’s at 2 PM at Cinema One. This is especially for seniors.
- East Lions are meeting tonight at 7 PM at Anna’s retreat Senior Citizen Center.
- Police Auxiliary is holding an emergency meeting at 5:30 on Thursday.
- UVI Small Business Development Center has a seminar on Friday on The Benefits of Doing Business on the Internet. That’s Friday from 6 to 8 PM Call 776-3206.
