The governor delivered his State of the Territory address last night.
The governor is offering legislation to let public housing residents buy their homes. He also reminded us that there will be a revenue shortfall and there can be no new legislation that costs the government new money. He also proposed widening the highway from the bottom of Raphune Hill to Four Winds with federal funds.
The Senate approved the nominations of the five of the seven casino commission members on Monday.
Most were approved by a vote of 13 to nothing, with only one negative vote. Senators reported that regardless of their position on gambling, they thought that all the members are fit to do the job.
No – St. Croix is not going to have its own 1 million dollar advertising fund.
The Senate rejected the bill that would have set aside money for advertising St. Croix on it own.
Gov. Schneider has appointed a new health commissioner.
Dr. Poblete will fill the job vacated by Dr. McDowell. Dr. Poblete has been a physician for more than 40 years and is a resident of St. Croix.
Volunteer agencies that were involved with Hurricane Marilyn recovery are meeting today at 1:20 PM at the VITEMA building.
This is a meeting to plan the continuing relief activities.
Friday is the last day to apply for FEMA disaster assistance.
Don’t wait. There are no extensions this time. FEMA wants us to rebuild our homes to withstand the next storm. That’s called mitigation. So they’re sponsoring a poster contest asking students to draw Mitigation Marvin, the Mitigation Mongoose. The winning poster will be seen throughout the territory.
Carnival may seem months away, but the Carnival queen contest deadline is coming up soon.
