New Commissioners. Veto Override

The Senate approved new commissioners yesterday . Eilene Peterson is the Chairperson of the Casino Commission. DR Poblete will head the Health Commission, and William Qeutel (Ka-tel) will head of the Small Business development Agency. Prosser and Paiewonsky were both approved to the UVI Board. The senators also reversed several of the Governor’s recent vetoes, there will be new fences at the Elena Christian School and Evelyn Williams School. We will spend $200,000 on rescue units, and the hospital is now named to honor Dr Roy Leister Schneider.

Are the Schools Being repaired?

Scratch the modular schools – we’re not building temporary classrooms. Senator Gomez says Its five months since the storm and the schools are still in disrepair. She has called an emergency meeting tomorrow at 6 PM at the Legislature. Dr Cheek says they have been working all along and there’s steady progress.

Human Services Offices Consolidating

Department of Human Services is consolidating offices. The food stamp office is moving out of the AQ Building, Children Youth and Families is coming out of the Spencely Building and Elderly Services is moving out of Havensight. They are all destined to new offices in the Kund-Hansen Complex near Lionel Roberts Stadium.

No Taxes, No License

Vera Falu of the Dept of Licensing reminds business owners that they must get their tax clearance letter or their business license is not valid.
