Miss U.S. Virgin Islands 1997 Introductory Speech

Introductory Speech
excerpt from winning introduction

Like diamonds, memories are forever and as I embark on what I consider to be one of the most memorable times of my life, I introduce myself to you.

I am Vania Thomas, a Virgin Islands gem, raised in St. Thomas.  Polished to perfection by the nurturing of my parents, Dr. Fred Thomas, and Rodica Thomas.  Exquisitely cut by my education at All Saints Cathedral School and through the acquisition of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Howard University in 1993.

I am destined to shine.  My hobbies add luster to my life.  They are gymnastics, theater, and spearfishing.  My personality is a multi – faceted as a finely cut gem.  I am affable, outgoing, creative, loyal and spiritual.

Presently, I am the Public Information Director at V.I. Public TV, WTJX, Channel 12; and a gymnastics instructor at the Virgin Islands Institute of the Performing Arts.  In 1989 I was Miss American Virgin Islands, and placed in the top five at the Miss World Pageant.

I am a proud Virgin Islander.  Wherever I go, and whatever I do, I will spread the loving, caring spirit that characterizes my people leaving you with the effulgence of a precious gem, I am Vania Thomas, Miss United States Virgin Islands.
